Gwangju Universiade’s Mascot

The name Nuribi is a combination of the Korean words ‘nuri’ for world and ‘bi’ for fly. Nuribi is a messenger of light and a bridge of communication amongst the world’s youth.

It serves as a symbol to introduce the ‘EPIC’ vision of the Gwangju Universiade: environmentally-friendliness, peace, IT, and culture. It also represents the unfolding wings of creation to deliver the ‘light of Gwangju’ to the world.

The emblem and mascot together form a consistent identity of light representing Gwangju, the city of light.

Award Medal Designs

The Award Medals to be used in the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade were designed with the games’ emblem of the Wings of Light as their basic motif. The emblem implies the leap and flight of Gwangju, the City of Light, toward world-class city status around the International University Sports Federation (FISU), and the spreading (realization) of the dreams and ideals of youth through sports. The Gwangju Universiade dreams of welcoming new challenges. The Gwangju Universiade Award Medals represent one such new challenge, and express this through elaborate wing motions using a special technique differentiated from the previous medal production methods. Metals possess forms and light. In addition to the forms of the Gwangju Summer Universiade emblem, light previously used exclusively in crafts will be applied to these medals through the assistance of several experts to help the games shine even brighter.
