FULL SCORECARD

commentary

So we are done and dusted with the first Test of the series, well before time. And it was a pretty ordinary performance by Bangladesh to be honest. Can they bounce back at Jamaica? For that, they need to make tremendous improvements in all three departments. So do join us for the action of that Test too. For now switch tabs and follow the action of the second T20I between England and India. On behalf of Sagar Chawla, Pradeep Krishnamurthy and Shashikant Singh this is Nikhil Jadhav signing off.

Kemar Roach, Man of the Match: I have played a couple of times against them before and done well. I am confident everytime when I am playing against Bangladesh. Also, playing at home helps. The pitches have helped me a lot. There is a bit of movement and bounce in the pitch. As a fast bowler you got to be licking your lips. A lot of things manifested. Shannon has been fantastic and so have been Holder and Cummins. As a whole bowling unit we have clicked.

Jason Holder, Windies captain: We started the series well, it’s good. We should have won against Sri Lanka too, a series to be won. Credit to the bowlers though. Kemar bowled well with the support of others. We enjoyed the pressure. I guess we bowled one no ball in this Test and got a wicket as well. We could have been more clinical in the second innings as well. This has set the tone for the next game. All of our bowlers have got pretty tough work load. Hopefully, we’ll try and keep winning. Very important, you know. I was pleased with my performance last week but we couldn’t come out on top. We got a win here and it was a collective effort by us. Hopefully we’ll do this in Jamaica as well.

Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh captain: It was very tough and we knew it was going to be tough. We have to work on areas in the next five days and pick ourselves. Adapting to these conditions won’t be easy as we are not used to it. We need to stay fit and think positive in the coming week. Nurul batted really well today. Abu Jayed was impressive on his debut. The way he showed his character, looks a great prospect for future.

11:47 Local Time, 15:47 GMT, 21:17 IST: Game. Set. Match! A comprehensive victory for Windies as they were clinical in all departments – across the 7 sessions of the Test. The only positive for Bangladesh was the knock by Nurul Hasan. He showed their top-order that run scoring was difficult but not impossible with his counterattacking knock. Barring that, it was Windies all the way. Roach’s breathtaking spell in the first innings that was followed by a gritty century by Kraigg Brathwaite. Fifties by Smith and Hope not to be forgotten too. As a result of that, Windies managed to notch up a massive lead of 353. Bangladesh couldn’t really recover from that knockout punch in the first innings. Roach didn’t take field in the second innings due to a niggle but Shannon Gabriel and Jason Holder worked in tandem to finish things off with the former bagging his career’s fifth 5-wicket haul. Clinical Performance. Also, this is Windies’ biggest innings win at home.

Windies vs Bangladesh – 2nd Test

Bangladesh 168/10 (42 Ovs) RR: 4.00 | Windies won by 166 runs

FULL SCORECARD

commentary

So, that concludes the Test season in the Windies calendar this year. They prepared result-oriented pitches and have played some exceptionally positive cricket. The lethal fast bowling of Shannon Gabriel at times reminded us of the their golden generation. They couldn’t end the series against Sri Lanka on a high but made up for it against Bangladesh. Focus shifts to white ball cricket now, join us then. Until next time, this is Varun Dixit signing off on behalf of Rishi Roy and Naga.

Jason Holder| MoM, MoS, and winning skipper: We played as a team. Different players put their hands up in different situations. I thought Bangladesh pushed us in the series but we were the better side. I asked the guys to give it everything. I thought if I will do well, the guys will be able to follow. There will be tough days in cricket and tough days in life; we will have to cope with it and move on. I want to give special credit to Corey Collymore, our bowling coach and Stuart Law our head coach and the entire support staff has been very good. We still have few areas of concern. We need to score some more runs and top-order needs to come to the party more often. In bowling we need to sort out the no-ball issue. We are heading in the right direction and hopefully, with more hard work, we will do well in the future too.

Shakib Al Hasan| losing captain: It was very tough. I was expecting it will be tough but not this tough. There are so many areas we need to sit down and talk about. It was a very disappointing series. We expected to show a better performance but that did not happen. We will move to the white-ball cricket now and we have been doing well in the white-ball cricket. I don’t know about the team but I believed that we can come come back in the series. The credit goes to the Windies. We were not good enough on the park. This is a big issue. We have been playing Test cricket for the last 18-19 years and we haven’t done well away from the home and that is one area we really want to improve upon.

17:14 Local Time, 22:14 GMT, 03:44 IST: A comprehensive 166-run victory for Windies. Handshakes all around. Skipper Holder and his troops have bright smiles on their faces as they make their way back into the dressing room. They deserve every bit of it. Kraigg Brathwaite started the show for them on the first morning as his ton in the first innings got them to 354. Bangladesh displayed some promise with the bat but Tamim and Shakib failed to convert their starts and they were dismissed for a dismal 149. They even failed to clear the follow-on mark but Windies were kind enough not to enforce it. Bangladesh bowled much better in the second innings, especially Shakib, whose figures of 6-33 restricted Windies to a meagre 129 in their second innings and gave Bangladesh a chance to level the series. However, their fortunes with the bat did not change. In reply, again, none of the batsmen portrayed the desired composure and Jason Holder was too hot to handle for them. Time for the presentations.

Holder to Abu Jayed, THAT’S OUT!! Bowled!!

Abu Jayed, right handed bat, comes to the crease

Holder to Kamrul Islam, THAT’S OUT!! Lbw!!

Keemo Paul [6.0-0-28-1] is back into the attack

Kamrul Islam, right handed bat, comes to the crease

Holder to Shakib, THAT’S OUT!! Bowled!!

Roston Chase [7.0-4-14-2] is back into the attack

Promising wicketkeeper-batsman fails yo-yo test; out of India A’s England tour

According to reports, the cricketer failed to cross the prescribed 16.1 mark in the yo-yo test.

Published – Jun 11, 2018 11:12 am | Updated – Jun 11, 2018 11:22 am

Shreyas Iyer-led India A is all set to play tri-series against England Lions and Windies A in England starting from June 17. The tour has four practice matches and six league games before the top two teams making it to the final. India A will play two warm-up games against Yorkshire and Leicestershire on 17th and 19th June. The main league games start from 22nd of June.

Many promising players like Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill and Deepak Chahar got the chance to showcase their skills in this tour. But, what’s more surprising is that the wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson was pulled out of the tour after he failed to pass the yo-yo test, which is a mandatory fitness test to pass for a player to go ahead into the squad.

According to reports in Mumbai Mirror, Sanju Samson failed to cross the prescribed 16.1 mark in the yo-yo test. The India A team has already landed in England to start their preparations for the tour. The tri-series will be an important tour for all the cricketers involved in the squad as Indian senior team is lined up to play big international games in near future and the youngsters will have a good chance to make it to the national team based on their performance in India A’s England tour.
