World University Championships – Kobe Japan

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

Each athlete must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible.

  1. United States Citizen and able to obtain a US Passport.
  2. Born between January 1, 1993 and December 31, 2000.
  3. Have taken at least one 3-credit course towards a degree or diploma within the last year before the GAMES. Incoming freshman and transfers are eligible. The standard is that the athlete must be “progressing towards a degree”.Graduating high school students accepted to attend a university in the Fall of 2018 will be eligible.

USA Karate and BTIE agree to adhere to all NCAA (or NAIA, NJCAA), USIUSF, and FISU regulations necessary in participating in a GAMES.

Athlete to declare participation by March 15. Payment due by March 31. Please notify Elizabeth Sottile in the national office via email esottile@usankf.org and include proof of eligibility.

USA Karate is allowed 1 athlete in each of the individual WKF Categories

The selection will be based on Highest seat in:

Sr National Team Seats 1-4

Jr National Team 18-20 Seats 1-4

Jr National Team 16-17 Seats 1-4 (Kata only)

Sr National Team athletes who competed at the January 2018 Team Trial (Not in top 4)

Cost will be: $1,100 per athlete paid to USA Karate by March 31

Includes all processing and registration fees by BTIE and includes Athletes’ Village housing, for 6 nights arriving Tuesday July 17 and Departing Monday July 23. In the Athletes’ Village all meals, ground transportation is included. Athletes can request to extend the stay 1 day to depart on Tuesday July 24 for an additional $90 – must be paid in advance. Fee also includes approximately $250 to apply to required officials charges determined by FISU prior to the event.

Random drug testing may be done on the athletes. All athletes that win a medal will be tested. The tests are done by WADA and positive results can affect NCAA, NAIA, or NJCAA eligibility.
