Manchester City

Man City Team News

Manchester City made ten changes for the Carabao Cup win against Oxford, with one of the players brought in – 18-year-old Phil Foden – earning rave reviews for his performance. The rising star may have to settle for a place on the bench at the weekend, however, despite a goal and an assist at Oxford. Kevin de Bruyne and Claudio Bravo remain long-term absentees and Benjamin Mendy has been injured since the international break, while Brahim Diaz hobbled off in mid-week. Elsewhere, however, City are at full-strength with key selection decisions including whether to play Bernardo Silva centrally, and which of Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez will start.

Man City Key Players

Sergio Aguero – Marked his 300th Manchester City appearance with yet another goal in the 5-0 defeat of Cardiff last weekend.
Riyad Mahrez – Having opened his City account with two against Cardiff last weekend, he made it three goals in two games by netting against Oxford too.
Bernardo Silva – The Portuguese playmaker has proved integral to City’s attacking style, bagging a goal and assist in South Wales last weekend.

Man City Team Form

City’s only defeat this season came at the hands of Lyon in the Champions League, in a shock 2-1 reverse at home despite Bernardo Silva’s second-half strike. Since then, however, City have bounced back well – starting with a 5-0 thrashing of Cardiff last weekend, thanks to Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan’s first half goals, and Riyad Mahrez’s double after the break. Mahrez scored again in the 3-0 defeat of Oxford in the Carabao Cup, with Gabriel Jesus and Phil Foden – for his first City goal – also on target.

Brighton & Hove

Brighton Team News

Dale Stephens will miss out, having gone off with a hamstring injury against Tottenham last weekend. Pascal Gross and Jose Izquierdo are also doubts, while Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Florin Andone are both still awaiting their first league starts. The Iranian has come off the bench for all five appearances this season, while Andone is only just fit again after injury.

Brighton Key Players

Glenn Murray – Four goals in six matches so far this season, having top scored with 14 in 38 appearances last season.
Anthony Knockaert – Scored his first goal of the season last weekend, and has managed to keep Alireza Jahanbakhsh out of the team so far.
Mat Ryan – Conceded five times in two games against Manchester City last season, and will have plenty to do this time out too.

Brighton Team Form

Brighton have not won since beating Manchester United 3-2 in August. They followed that with a 1-0 defeat away at Liverpool before losing to Southampton, 1-0, in the Carabao Cup. Two 2-2 draws followed, in which they came from 2-0 down on both occasions, sealing a point thanks to a late Glenn Murray penalty in each of those matches. Last time out, however, they could only pull one back as Anthony Knockaert scored Brighton’s consolation in a 2-1 defeat.

Brighton & Hove Albion Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-5-1

Brighton & Hove likely XI

  • Goalkeeper:Mat Ryan

Manchester City vs Brighton & Hove Head-to-Head Stats

The two matches between City and Brighton last season were the first in the league since 1989, with City’s two wins taking their overall record to ten wins, four draws and five defeats in the 19 previous head-to-head matches. City won 2-0 at Brighton on the opening day last season, after a Sergio Aguero goal and Lewis Dunk’s own goal, before a 3-1 home win at the Etihad on Yaya Toure’s farewell – Danilo, Bernardo Silva and Fernandinho all scoring for City, and Leonardo Ulloa netting for the Seagulls.

Man City vs Brighton Betting Tips

Defeat to Lyon in the Champions League proved to be nothing more than a temporary blip for Manchester City, who have scored eight goals without reply in the two games since.

Pascal Gross, a key figure in Brighton’s wins against Manchester United, is missing – his absence is a big blow for the Seagulls, particularly with Dale Stephens also out.

City are also missing players, not least Kevin de Bruyne, but their two Silvas, David and Bernardo, have stepped up in his absence.

The one thing that could hold City back will be having one eye on the Champions League in mid-week, but even then their strength in depth is frightening.

They made ten changes in mid-week, and still had the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Vincent Kompany, David Silva, Gabriel Jesus and rising star Phil Foden in their starting line-up.

Whether all of those changes are reversed remains to be seen, but City will know they should be beating Brighton on paper.

Brighton have proved they should not be written off, and Manchester United have lost twice to them, but City are a very different beast.

City should win, and win well – just as they did at home against Brighton last year.

Man City vs Brighton Recommended bets with odds

Betfair’s 1/10 on Manchester City to beat Brighton sums up the hosts’ expected dominance in this game; Brighton are a best price of 143/4 with 10Bet.

Both teams to score has been set at 7/5 by Betfair and 888sport, but City have kept clean sheets in their last two matches so be wary.

More to the point, City have been at their attacking best again. Over 2.5 goals will return a best price of 3/10, but over 3.5 goals is 4/5 with 888sport.

Sergio Aguero was back in the goals last weekend, and is a best price of 6/13 to score at any time with 888sport. Riyad Mahrez has three goals in two, meanwhile, and is 8/5 with 888sport.

Man City vs Brighton Prediction

After a small blip in the Champions League, Manchester City are back to their free-flowing best and, particularly with Brighton in poor form, the hosts should seal a comfortable home win.

Correct Score Prediction: Man City 3-1 Brighton
