  • Key Stat

Key Stat: Huddersfield have won just one of their last 16 Premier League matches.

  • Expert Verdict

Expert Verdict: Huddersfield have struggled for goals, let alone points, so far this season – scoring just three times in seven games in all competitions and claiming just two league points. Spurs have had a wobble since the international break, but a league win at Brighton and penalty shoot-out win in the cup against Watford should give them renewed confidence. Spurs really should be winning this one.

Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield Team News

Juninho Bacuna, Ramadan Sobhi and Collin Quaner remain doubtful after missing the defeat to Leicester last time out. Erik Durm started that game but Florent Hadergjonaj, or even Tom Smith, could come in at right-back. Laurent Depoitre is likely to continue up front, having started for the first time this season and set up Town’s goal against Leicester.

Huddersfield Key Players

Jonas Lossl – The Danish stopper has reclaimed the number-one jersey, and will need to deliver similar heroics to last season if Town are to stay up again.
Laurent Depoitre – The Belgian international set up Zanka’s goal against Leicester, in his first start of the season.
Aaron Mooy – The Australian international remains one of Huddersfield’s most influential players in the middle of midfield.

Huddersfield Team Form

Town have drawn two and lost five of their seven matches so far this season, including three defeats in their last four games. The Carabao Cup offered no respite at the end of August, as they lost 2-0 away to Stoke, before a 1-1 draw with Everton – after Philip Billing’s goal – at least restored some pride. Back-to-back defeats have followed, however, 1-0 at home to Crystal Palace and 3-1 at Leicester last weekend, despite Zanka’s fifth-minute goal.

  • Defenders:Tom Smith, Mathias Jorgensen, Colin Schindler, Terence Kongolo, Curtis Lowe

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Team News

With Hugo Lloris out injured and Michel Vorm joining him on the sidelines last time out, Paolo Gazzaniga is likely to continue in goal. Spurs look to have settled on the 4-2-3-1 formation after some chopping and changing earlier in the season. Dele Alli is fit again, while Erik Lamela could also start after three goals in the last four games.

Tottenham Key Players

Harry Kane – The World Cup golden boot winner has yet to fully hit his stride, but he is joint-top goalscorer with three in seven so far.
Erik Lamela – Three goals in Spurs’ last three domestic games have seen the winger staking a serious claim for a starting role.
Christian Eriksen – Spurs’ goalscorer in the Champions League defeat to Inter, and he also has two assists to his name so far this season.

Tottenham Team Form

Spurs continued their mini revival after hitting the buffers in recent weeks. A good start to the season could not continue in to September, when they lost 2-1 at Watford despite taking the lead thanks to an own goal. They were then out-played in a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool – Erik Lamela scoring a late consolation – before Inter’s late show inflicted another 2-1 defeat on Spurs. Last weekend, however, they won 2-1 at Brighton thanks to Harry Kane’s penalty and another Lamela goal before beating ten-man Watford on penalties in the Carabao Cup after a 2-2 draw, in which Dele Alli and Lamela scored.

Tottenham Hotspur Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-2-3-1

Tottenham Hotspur likely XI

  • Goalkeeper:Paolo Gazzaniga

  • Defenders:Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose

  • Defensive Midfielders:Eric Dier, Moussa Dembele

  • Attacking Midfielders:Erik Lamela, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen

  • Forwards:Harry Kane

Huddersfield Town vs Tottenham Hotspur Head-to-Head Stats

Huddersfield actually have the historical edge in this fixture, with 16 wins compared to 13 Tottenham victories and 13 draws. They have not beaten Tottenham since 1956, however – though that does only amount to seven matches played. Last season’s two meetings, which Spurs won 4-0 away and 2-0 at home, were the first between the two teams since 1972. Harry Kane scored twice in the former, with Ben Davies and Moussa Sissoko also netting, while Son Heung-Min scored both goals in the latter.

HTAFC vs THFC Betting Tips

Even with Spurs wobbling a little of late, this game should only go one way – Huddersfield lack an attacking threat and Spurs have plenty of creativity to break down Town’s packed defence.

Harry Kane and Erik Lamela have been scoring goals, even if the former has not done so as prolifically as in the past so far.

Manchester City put six past Huddersfield, however, and Chelsea and Leicester both hit three – it seems once the stubborn defence is broken down, more goals will come.

Huddersfield survived last season but have made a discouraging start to the current campaign – their high-pressing, possession football abandoned long ago in favour of a defensive-first approach.

Paolo Gazzaniga is unlikely to be threatened if Huddersfield’s recent performances are anything to go by.

Spurs have not created too many chances in their league games so far this season either, but they have still scored goals – including the three at Old Trafford earlier in the year.

An early goal could make the difference between a scrappy affair and a comfortable away win – but it is difficult to see anything but the latter occurring.

Tottenham vs Huddersfield Recommended bets with odds

Tottenham are unsurprisingly odds-on favourites to beat Huddersfield, at 9/20 with Betway, but that does improve to 11/8, with Betway and Bet365, if you back Spurs to win to nil.

Offering nothing in attack, it would be a surprise if Huddersfield tested Paolo Gazzaniga that often.

Spurs have not created many chances this season – less than anyone else in the top six – but backing under 2.5 goals at 11/10 with Betfair and Paddy Power would be a risk given Huddersfield’s poor defensive form. Over 2.5 goals will return 4/5 with Betfair.

Harry Kane is unsurprisingly favourite to score, at a best price of 7/10 with Betway and 888sport, but Erik Lamela has been in the goals too – he is 37/13 with 888sport to score at any time.

Huddersfield vs Tottenham Prediction

Huddersfield are without a win so far this season and lack goals too. Offering little in attack and conceding plenty it is hard to see where their first win of the season will come from.

Correct score prediction: Huddersfield 0-3 Tottenham
