The Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) has launched the National University Netball Team to the 2nd World University Netball Championship 2016 scheduled to take place in Miami, Florida, USA from July 13th to 17th 2016.
This is the 2nd time Uganda is participating in this event that attracts elite university athletes and 12 countries are expected to compete for the World University Championship Title.
Other countries that will take part in this championship include the following: USA, Australia, Jamaica, South Africa, Trinidad & Tobago, England and Namibia.
Uganda will be travelling with Twelve (12) athletes and five (5) officials from selected institutions including: Uganda Christian University, Ndejje University, Makerere University, Nkumba University, Kampala University and Kampala International University.
In July, 2012, the first World University Netball Championship was held in Cape Town, South Africa from July 2–7, The South African Federation of University Sports organized the event. The winners were England, who beat South Africa in the finals. And Uganda finished 5th position of the 8 countries; behind USA, Great Britain, South Africa and Jamaica.

Uganda’s participation in this year’s event is important for knowledge transfer and early preparation since Uganda won the bid to host the 3rd World University Netball Championship 2018.
The World University Championships are organized by the Federation of International Sport Universities (FISU). In July, 2012, the 1st World University Netball Championship was held in Cape Town, South Africa. The South African Federation of University Sports organised the event. It is a women’s indoor tournament with a maximum of 12 teams competing. 12 competitors and 5 officials are allowed per team.
